My Halloween Special – By: Zaria

It was the night before Halloween and I was so excited about Halloween. We had our school party that day and I was going to wear my costume at home. My mom told me to go and change so I could play with my sisters and we were playing a bad game.

The game was that we were running around the house and locking the doors so other siblings wouldn’t come in, so I was running towards my front door (which had a glass window). As I was running, I looked back and saw my sister Lilly chasing me then it all went black.

The next thing I remembered…my arm was through the glass, my sister, Summer was on the other side of the door and her face was white and my mom was looking at me and her face was even whiter.

Lilly and Summer were screaming. My aunt lived down the street from us and heard Lilly and Summer screaming and came running with my cousin Chelsea. Meanwhile, my mom ran to grab a towel  and ran to me because my arm was gushing blood.

While she was getting a towel, everything was in such slow motion. It felt like forever for my mom to get to me. She finally did and my aunt and cousin were there trying to help and my mom rushed me to stop the blood from going everywhere.

The blood didn’t gush in a constant flow, but in time with the beating of my heart. At first it came thick and strong, flowing through his fingers as they clasped the ripped flesh.

I felt the blood move over my hand, the thick fluid no warmer or cooler than my own skin. After a few moments more the blood was still leaving my rapidly paling flesh, but the pulses were slower, weaker.

The shards of glass were sharp enough to cut flesh as if it posed no resistance. At once a fountain of red came from the wound, the ebb and flow in time with a terrified heart, killing the girl, me, all the faster.

I layed watching as if I could not hear myself screams of pain, as if it were a silent theatre production of no importance. I never moved at all until my mark was bled out, my red blood mingled with the ground and taking on an earthy hue.

After that I think I passed out because everything went black. A couple minutes later I woke up on a camping ground I went to when I was younger. Going camping is one of  my favourite childhood memories.

My family and I go camping all over the state of Michigan and it is so exciting and fun! We have gone to places like Lexington State Park, Fisherman’s island State Park, etc and we even go close to home, like Yankee Springs state park.

We go there in the summer but mostly over the Halloween weekend with all the activities and the trick or treating and our friends come with us and it’s such a great time. While camping we always ride our bikes and play games and swim and laugh and it is such a rad family experience.

Camping has influenced my life because it is a fun family time and I get to be outside and hike and bike ride and swim and play in four squares. It’s just so fun with my family, and since my friends are there it’s much more fun!

Suddenly, i-I woke up?…I woke up with flashing lights in my eyes in a really bright room, with white walls. I was so confused!?! I didn’t know where I was, but I could hear my mothers voice.

It was a bit hard to work out what she was saying because it was very muffled, but I succeeded in figuring out that she was talking to someone. A doctor, the person’s voice was deep so I thought it was a man. He told my mom that I’m going to be in a coma…FOR 12 YEARS!

I started freaking out! I’m going to miss graduation! I’m going to miss school! I’ll miss my birthday, christmas, easter, halloween, and all of the fun things at school, like hanging out with my friends! I was having a whole panic attack. Then it hit me, and I became confused once again!

Why could I hear them if I was in a coma? Because in school we were learning about how people who fall into a coma can’t hear the people around them. I remember a fact that I read online saying “During a coma, the individual is unconscious, meaning they are unable to respond to any sounds.”

I also recall writing in my four facts that, “When a person is in a coma, the person’s eyes will be closed and they’ll appear to be unresponsive to their environment. They won’t normally respond to sound or pain, or be able to communicate or move voluntarily, and basic reflexes, such as coughing and swallowing, will be greatly reduced.”

So why could I? Yet, I was freaking out! Deep inside, a little part of me felt very happy I could still hear. Because if I’m going to be in a coma for 12 year, what am I going to do, so might as well listen to all the tea and gossip so when I wake up I won’t be totally disorientated.

Instantaneously, I could hear my mom clearly, she was crying her heart out! As if her soul could bleed an ocean through her eyes, that was the enormity of her sobbing. Then my mom started saying –

“A life of higher joys is a life with more tears of all kinds. Every blessing is a curse. Only by accepting the curse in full measure can you receive the blessing in full measure. I love you. If I ever lose you, I will be destroyed. You are my greatest blessing.”

After that, the doctor told someone to get her a cup of water and then I could hear the doctor telling my mom to sit in a chair and drink some water because it will help calm her down. As the footsteps became louder and louder, as if they were coming closer and closer, but then the footsteps stopped and faded again.

Soon after, I heard the doctor saying “Coma is a state of prolonged unconsciousness that can be caused by a variety of problems, traumatic head injury, stroke, brain tumour, drug or alcohol intoxication, or even an underlying illness, such as diabetes or an infection,” to someone.

Then the other person asked “which one should I put it under?” The doctor answered “an infection in her hands because of the shards glass stuck in her skin. Umm, Caleb, can you get me the paper in 30 minutes, thank you.” and that’s where I found out that the other person’s name was caleb.

My life went on like that for 12 whole years – hear people talking about things they don’t want other people to know about. But I was okay because my mom came to visit me every weekend because she had work on the weekdays. But then one day she came to visit me like normally, but I heard someone with her?

I knew mom and dad had broken up when I was born about maybe they got back together. But then my mom said “you can talk to her love.” “Okay” responded the other person in a deep voice, that wasn’t my dad. Maybe mom found happiness once again!

That same day when mom was about to leave, I grabbed her hand, and she started crying again and the man ran to get help. My mom stayed with me the whole time. The doctor checked me out to make sure it was okay for me to go home now. After 12 years.

I was happy and looked so much older and different. After James, my mom’s lover, signed all of the papers with my mom, we got in the car and went home. As we pulled up to the house my mom told me that we had moved houses because your sisters are older, and now that James is living with us, we needed a bigger house.

And this is where the biggest story of my life comes to an end. After asking my doctor I went back to school, finished my studies and got a job to pay for an apartment closer to where I worked.

My life now is on a good path and I have made a family of my own now, and I have 2 sons that are twins, named Caleb and Klaus, and most of all I’m happy! ;P I have a loving husband that treats me like a queen, as he should.

And I get along with my step dad and my mom is very caring and supportive of me going back to school. And I visit my sisters at their homes and they are also doing very well in life as well, and I’m happy for them!

My Scary Stories

There is nothing I love more than scary stories. If you know me then you would know how much I love telling creepy tales, especially during a sleepover with my friends. What I enjoyed the most were the short collections that I collected online as a kid, and I thought it might be fun to share some of the stories I wrote with everyone. Until this day, whenever I tell these stories it never fails to impress so here they are, five of some of my favourite short scary stories I wrote! I hope you like them and please leave a comment, and thank you for checking out my blog. ;P

The Cabin

A hiker decided to go on a hike by himself. Something he was not very used to. The whole day was normal. Trees and bushes engulfed his surroundings. He enjoyed being outdoors in the mountains. Nothing seemed strange to him, that was until he was making his way back to his car.

He figured an eight hour hike was good enough. The sky was already getting dark and he needed to get back, fast. What was odd was how much he didn’t recognize the trail back. He began to panic.

Night had already taken over and all he had was a flashlight and no clue on how to get back. He knew it was already too late and too dangerous to keep going through the perilous forest.

He began to worry that he would have no shelter for the night when almost luckily enough, he stumbled across a broken-down cabin. It was dark, and seemed like no one had visited it in years, but he knew it was the only place where he could rest until daylight, especially since his flashlight was running out of battery.

He knocked on the door a few times but no one answered, so he let himself in where strangely enough, a perfect bed fitted for one person awaited him in the center. He knew that if the owner came back he could explain himself, he was sure that the owner wouldn’t mind, or was even probably dead.

So he went ahead and got himself comfortable in bed. As he tried to sleep, he couldn’t ignore the collection of paintings around the room; portraits of strange looking people all peering at him, each wearing a smile that sent chills up his spine.

Not too long after his exhaustion from the hike got the best of him and he was able to ignore the faces. The next morning he got up early and was shocked to see that there were no paintings around the room, but windows…

The Red Wristband

A doctor was working at a hospital, a hospital where the patients were tagged with coloured bands. Green: alive. Red: deceased.

One night, the doctor was instructed to get a few supplies from the basement of the hospital, and so he headed to the lift. The lift doors opened and there was a patient inside, minding her own business. Patients were allowed to roam around the hospital to stretch, especially those who have stayed long. The rule was to be back in their rooms before ten.

The doctor smiled at the patient before pressing the number for the basement. He found it unusual that the woman didn’t have a button already pressed. He wondered if she was heading to the basement too.

The lift finally reached the floor where the doors opened. In the distance a man was limping towards the elevator, and in a panic the doctor slammed the elevator button to close. It finally did and the lift began to ascend back up, the doctor’s heart pounding.

“Why did you do that? He was trying to use the lift.” The woman stated, annoyed.

“Did you see his wrist?” The doctor asked, “It was red. He died last night. I would know because I did his surgery.”

The woman lifted her wrist. He saw red. She smiled. “Like this one?”

White with RED

A man just moved into an apartment and heads to the receptionist to get his keys. The receptionist gave him the key with a smile but warns him not to disturb the door with no number on his floor. He wondered why but didn’t bother to ask, he was too busy with his new apartment to care. After he finished unpacking he began to get curious. He questioned why the receptionist would warn him of such things, and so he stepped out of his apartment to check the door with no number.

He tried the door knob first but it was locked, so instead he got onto his knees and peeked through the keyhole. The apartment he was looking into was empty. His eyes scanned the whole place before stopping at a woman, standing face against a wall, in the corner. He noticed her pale skin and long black hair before stepping back, suddenly feeling perverted in a way for invading someone else’s privacy. He brushed it off, assuming she was someone that did not want to be disturbed.

The next day he got more curious about the woman and eventually went back, straight away getting onto his knees. He peeked through the keyhole and saw all red. Red. He assumed that the pale woman must have caught him peeking the last time and covered the hole with something red.

He left the door alone and instead went down to the receptionist to ask her questions. The receptionist sighed and asked, “you looked through the keyhole, didn’t you?”

He admitted to it and so she felt obliged to tell him the story. She told him that a couple used to live in that apartment a long time ago, but the husband went crazy and killed his wife. However, this couple wasn’t normal.

They had pale skin, black hair and red eyes.

THE CHAIR

This short tale starts benignly enough, with a friendly-seeming ghost playing with children, but when you learn the origins of the ghost – and just why the ghost is moving the object around the room, it quickly gets a lot creepier.

“When my sister Betsy and I were kids, our family lived for a while in a charming old farmhouse. We loved exploring its dusty corners and climbing the apple tree in the backyard. But our favourite thing was the ghost.

We called her Mother, because she seemed so kind and nurturing. Some mornings Betsy and I would wake up, and on each of our nightstands, we’d find a cup that hadn’t been there the night before. Mother had left them there, worried that we’d get thirsty during the night.

She just wanted to take care of us. Among the homes’ original furnishings was an antique wooden chair which we kept against the back wall of the living room. Whenever we were preoccupied, watching TV or playing a game, Mother would inch that chair forward, across the room, toward us.

Sometimes she’d manage to move it all the way to the centre of the room. We always felt sad putting it back against the wall. Mother just wanted to be near us. Years later, long after we’d moved out, I found an old newspaper article about the farmhouse’s original occupant, a widow.

She’d murdered her two children by giving them each a cup of poisoned milk before bed. Then she hung herself. The article included a photo of the farmhouse’s living room, with a woman’s body hanging from a beam. Beneath her, knocked over, was that old wooden chair, placed exactly in the centre of the room.”

…Did it get colder in here, or is it just me?
